Memorandum of Association of Manipur Societies Registration Act 1989
The MOA is a vital document when registering a society under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989. It consists of all the society members names along with following particulars:
- Name of the association
- Address of the society's registered office in Manipur
- Objectives and purposes of society
- The names of the members of the governing body
- The names, occupations and addresses of persons who signed the memorandum
Note: After completion of the society registration process, one can change the memorandum only with prior approval of the registrar and members of the society.
Manipur Societies Registration Act 1989 Rules and Regulation
The registrar will not accept any MOA or memorandum to register a society unless a copy of its regulations is not served. The document of regulation will contain:

Procedure for Registering Society Under the Manipur Societies Registration Act 1989
Registering a society under the Act involves a few straightforward steps:
- Form the group - At least 7 members are required, with a minimum of 3 on the executive committee.
- Choose a name - It must not duplicate or closely resemble any existing registered society or corporate body, or contain restricted words (e.g., "Union," "State," "Gandhi").
- Draft the Memorandum of Association (MOA) - Stating the society's name, office address, objectives, and details of the governing body members.
- Prepare the Regulations (Bye-Laws) - Covering governance, membership, meetings, and accounts.
- Submit the application - File the MOA, regulations, supporting documents (ID/address proofs, meeting minutes, photographs, office proof), and a ₹100 fee with the Registrar of the concerned district.
- Verification - The Registrar reviews the application for compliance with the Act.
- Certificate of Registration - Once approved, the Registrar seals and registers the society, issuing a Certificate of Registration along with certified copies of the MOA and regulations.
Alteration of MOA and Regulations
- Generally, a society will not alter its MOA. Exceptional cases are when the society has previous permission from the registrar in writing formats and the votes of its members.
- Before approving, the registrar shall satisfy himself that alteration of MOA and regulations does not make society ineligible for registration under this particular act.
- As per the provisions of this act, rules and provision of MOA by the votes of three-fifths of the society members, alter its regulations.
